Outlaw Music Festival: Willie Nelson and Family, The Avett Brothers, Gov't Mule & Elizabeth Cook at Wharf Amphitheater

Willie Nelson recently turned 90, but the blues rock legend shows no signs of slowing down. Since the ‘50s, Nelson has been writing and releasing rock staples, such as “Highwayman,” “Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys,” “Beer for My Horses,” “On the Road Again,” and many more. Willie Nelson emerged in 1956, writing and performing music while keeping a day job. There was also a time that he tried to sell the song “Mr. Record Man” for $10 to a renowned music producer. Today, Nelson is one of the most influential and prolific blues rock artists of all time. He has released 99 studio albums and sold over 40 million records in the U.S.

His exemplary work has earned him numerous accolades, including 15 Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, ten Country Music Association Awards, and many more. Nelson’s music holds a great legacy on the music scene. His music helped shape the industry into what it is today and has greatly influenced several generations of musicians. In fact, famous music artists such as Johnny Cash, The Dixie Chicks, Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, and Alison Krauss have cited Nelson as one of their major influences.

This 2023, Nelson will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Together with iconic musicians Kate Bush and Missy Elliot, Nelson will grace the stage in November at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the much-deserved induction.

The festival’s Alabama stop will also feature North-Carolina-born folk-rock quartet The Avett Brothers. The highly-acclaimed band is revered for their genre-defying tunes, which infuse bluegrass, rock, punk, folk, and pop into one catch package. The Grammy-nominated band is set to light up Morrison, Colorado, with a coveted three-day run this summer. The show is anticipated to feature hits such as “I and Love and You,” “Ain’t No Man,” Victory,” “Another is Waiting,” “High Steppin,” and more.

Lastly, country singer-songwriter Elizabeth Cook will grace the stage at the Wharf Amphitheater. The Florida-born songstress will cover hits from her career-spanning albums, including her latest release, Aftermath.
